Shri Chandrakant Patil’s view on Clean Ganga Campaign

River Ganga or Ma Ganga is the major and the holiest river of the country. About 40% of the population of India gets its water from this holy river. And many people are dependent on river Ganga for their livelihood. Some people also live in close proximity to this river. And because of these reasons, river Ganges used to get polluted day by day. Most of the pollution of this river was caused due to the people using it for their domestic purposes like laundry, bathing, and public excretion. There are many industries and factories such as chemical plants, tanneries, distilleries, textile mills, hospitals, and slaughterhouses, etc. which also played a major role in polluting the river with their untreated waste which was lethal and non-biodegradable for living organisms as well as for the river.
Keeping all this in mind, the government had rigorously started the Clean Ganga Campaign. Out of the 33 sewage treatment plants to be set up, 19 has already been completed, which is a major accomplishment by the government. Although there has been a tremendous improvement in the condition of Ma Ganga because of this project, we will tell you about this complete project here.
This campaign was started to bring awareness among people for keeping this holy river clean. The main objective of this mission was to reduce the pollution of the river, implementation of methods to conserve the river Ganga, and finally, efforts towards rejuvenating the river Ganga. According to this campaign, the river Ganga will be cleaned by 2022 and 70 to 80% will be done by this march. There were various steps in this Clean Ganga Campaign. The first one was the proper maintenance of Sewerage Treatment infrastructure so that the waste material produced by domestic purposes will not pollute the river. The second one is to make a large number of developments on the riverfront as it will improve tourism and with proper cleaning arrangement, the pollution of the river will also be reduced. The next step towards this campaign is to clean the surface of the river Ganga by various modern techniques. This will enhance the beauty of the river and make it safe for drinking and other purposes. After this step, there was a plan for making the river safe for different living organisms. According to this campaign, the government has decided to plant various plantations surrounding the river. This will help in preventing the flood and global warming, which are the major causes of the pollution of the river. With the help of this campaign, the government has decided to monitor the industries and factory waste treatment system regularly as these have contributed significantly to the pollution of the river Ganga. This campaign also aware people about the advantages of cleaning the river and what are the ways that they should implement to make this campaign a successful one.
This is all that is planned and offered by the BJP government while introducing this campaign. Shri Chandrakant Patil believes that this Clean Ganga Campaign is a very nice effort which has definitely made a significant impact in keeping the river clean and safe for drinking. According to Shri Chandrakant Dada Patil, within two years, the government has made a lot of effort to make this Clean Ganga Campaign successful. Shri Chandrakant Patil believes that everyone can see a huge improvement in the pollution of the river Ganga. However, it still needs more efforts for making it safe for drinking or any other purposes. There was planning to shift the tanneries to a distant place from the river. According to Shri Chandrakant Patil, it is necessary for people to also take efforts in this direction so as to make it possible for the government to make the Ganga river clean and safe to use. According to Shri Chandrakant Patil, there should be coordination between government officials and common people so that people should also be aware of the basic cleaning habits.
Shri Chandrakant Patil himself had contributed a major part of his life in working for the welfare of the people of Maharashtra. We can see his work in different regions of Maharashtra significantly.
